Meet Georgia O'Keeffe Renowned artist Georgia O’Keeffe (1887–1986) was a highly influential contributor to the development of a specifically American modernism, with her bold clear portraits of flowers, landscapes and sun-bleached bones. She consistently took inspiration from nature, with abstraction becoming a metaphor for knowledge: the closest view of the flower yields an abstract image, the most profound knowledge of the subject yields its abstract form. Married to the pioneering photographer Alfred Stieglitz, his portraits of her are among his most admired work, capturing the essence of a woman whose strength and iconoclasm remained to her 98th year, and secured her enduring legacy.
