The Art of Creative Pruning | Jake Hobson | Niwaki

Regular price $75.00

This wonderful book uncovers the Japanese approach to appreciation of living trees and how to discern the essence of each plant, to be expressed more fully through creative pruning. Applicable in any environment. Great gift for garden-lovers.

While clipping may not come naturally to all, Jake Hobson's learning in Japan has resulted in a fresh relatively unstructured east-meets-west approach to topiary that respects trees and their gardeners equally. With Hobson's richly informative text and encouraging advice (including remedial pruning and increasing fruit yield) and illustrated with spectacular photographs taken in some of the world's most inventive gardens, these powerful sculptural landscapes will engage every gardener, whether active or a passive enjoyer of gardens.

Meet Jake Hobson After completing a degree in Sculpture at London's Slade School of Fine Art, Jake Hobson spent a year working in a Japanese nursery on the outskirts of Osaka, learning the intricacies of old-style Japanese pruning from masters. Returning to the UK he worked in Architectural Plants for a number of years, then, with his Japanese wife, established Niwaki, manufacturing and sourcing Japanese garden tools. Over time other Japanese products have been added to their range. Hobson also runs pruning lectures, workshops and courses across the UK and USA.
