Meet Vincent Van Gogh Despite a relatively brief period as a full time artist of only a decade, Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) revolutionised the practise of art and remains one of the most recognised and profoundly influential artists in the world, after emphatically shifting art's axis away from the lyricism of Impressionism. After early studies and some recognition in The Hague and Antwerp, Van Gogh moved to Paris in 1886, living with his brother, art dealer Theo, where his painting matured. The final two years of his life, an intensely prolific period, were spent in the south of France until his death, possibly by his own hand, at the age of 37.
